REDUCING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT
Princess Polly is part of the UN Fashion Industry Charter for Climate Action. As part of this program we’re committed to setting Science Based Targets inline with a 1.5 degree temperature rise and will be carbon neutral by 2030.
In 2020, a leading environmental consultancy calculated our company’s carbon emission baseline, which gives us a starting point to reduce our carbon emissions.
Our carbon footprint baseline is categorized into our major components - Production, Transport, Operations, Product Use Phase, and Product End of Life Phase. We are implementing new initiatives across these major components that will help us reduce our carbon footprint.
Our carbon footprint breakdown:
It’s our mission to fully transition to sustainably made, lower impact materials for all of our products, while producing on-trend, high quality garments at accessible prices.
We’ve made good progress so far, currently 20% of our range is sustainably made using lower impact materials. We’re committed to making more progress, with at least 60% of our range sustainably made by 2025, and 100% by 2030.
Additionally we’re working closely with our factories on sustainable practices, in 2021,15 of our factories became fully certified to create organic and recycled products.
In 2021 we launched carbon neutral customer deliveries in partnership with Shopify’s Planet app - this program automatically calculates all customer shipping emissions, and purchases high-quality carbon removal to neutralize all customer shipping.
The other major component of transport related emissions is shipping from our factories to our distribution centers. We are aiming to reduce this footprint by over 30% from our 2020 baseline by increasing our use of sea shipments, and utilizing lower impact transportation options as they become feasible.
All of our orders and garments are shipped in 100% recycled content packaging. By switching to recycled and recyclable packing we have already reduced our packaging-related carbon footprint. Our recycled content plastic garment and shipping bags alone generate 74% less emissions than virgin plastic. OPERATIONS & WASTE
By 2023 our global offices and warehouses will be carbon neutral and powered by 100% renewable energy. We’ve already installed solar panels at our HQ in Australia.
We’re also working towards running zero-waste from our operations by 2025, and already in 2021 33% of waste created in our offices and warehouses was diverted from landfill into recycling and composting.
Our Environment Roadmap
What we’ve achieved so far:
- 100% of our packaging is recycled and recyclable
- 33% of waste was diverted from landfill globally
- Our first carbon footprint was calculated
- Global offices and distribution centers will be carbon neutral and powered by 100% renewable energy
- With the help of relevant partners, make channels available for used or damaged items for consumers in our two largest markets
- All consumer facing packaging will be reusable, recyclable or compostable
- Be 100% zero-waste. Any waste generated in our offices and distribution centers will be reused, recycled or composted
- Reduce our carbon emissions by a minimum of 30%
- Achieve carbon neutrality across our entire supply chain.
